Inspired by Reality
Reinterpret the reality, make it your own and create new stories around it. With the wonderful art of 3D animations, we are getting pretty close to a ‘living 3D world’.
In his talk, Guillaume will walk you through the process of creating a playful 3D animated piece inspired by reality — with a lot of live demonstration! He starts with inspiration via photography to (re-)design the elements in 3D software. With that, he creates a simply beautiful and coherent new world from the real one outside. Get ready to be inspired!
2:00 PM

In a New York Minute
Folklore has it that “a New York minute” is measured in moments, if not seconds. When you look up in the history books, the term was coined to describe the hectic nature of life in New York city. That in fact describes the internet to a tee: hectic. In this talk, Henri will recount the hectic nature of loading assets on the internet, how to manage these hurdles, and discuss in data-driven detail how do load your resources rapidly, or In a New York Minute.
4:25 PM
(The Ethics of) Web3
Privacy and using technology to ‘do no harm’ has been on our radars for a while. In her talk, Laura will not only (re-)open your eyes to what we need to be aware of, but will also give practical tips so you can also make a difference yourself!
5:20 PM

Tales of Accessibility Failures
We hope for our web applications to be as beautiful, performant, and accessible as possible; but sometimes... Things get in the way and the outcome is not as good as we hoped. In this talk Eva will walk you through a few of my failed attempts at developing accessible web applications. We'll go through different accessibility assumptions and myths that I wrongly believed to be true and how to avoid them by properly testing for accessibility.
Eva will also be running a workshop on Practical Accessibility Testing!

Coffee Break 🧋
Pfew, we hope our first two talks woke you up? To help a little extra we have coffee, tea and more.
12:10 PM
Design System Typography: Intent, Application, and Scale
Every website and digital product has a design system of some kind. Even if it’s just a single stylesheet. But as design systems become larger, more formalized, and more mature—it helps to think about the role that typography plays in the larger system when making decisions about how to design the typographic system within.
We’ll look at two different design systems: Quahog, for the State of Rhode Island; and Chirp, and the system at Chewy—and explore how they align and diverge in their use of type and typography, design tokens, and overall use-case intent.
1:05 PM
Facilitating Safe and Inclusive Feedback
Receiving and providing feedback is an integral part of the design process. It plays a vital role in how we can expand our thinking and deliver innovative solutions.
Learn how a few simple steps around facilitation can foster meaningful conversations around design in your organization as we move into hybrid working environments.

3:30 PM
Optimistic UX
Once upon a time, the browser was passive to what logic the server would decide to show. Fast-forward a bit, we entered the world of Single Page Applications, and suddenly we had control over presentation logic. Pending UIs and loading spinners enabled us to give the user feedback that something was happening.
Nowadays, the gap between server-side and client-side is narrowed enough that we can have more control and anticipate what the response should be before we even fetch the data. Let's have a look at why and how we can use optimism to offer users a snappy (and smashing!) user experience.
4:25 PM
Animating the Impossible
How best do we achieve smooth UI animations when dealing with DOM changes, responsive layouts, dynamic content and user interaction? Well... we start off by flipping our whole approach upside down. In this session we’ll lift the magicians curtain, take a look at some ‘impossible’ animation challenges, and learn how to approach them using a rather exciting animation technique.
Cassie will also be running a workshop on SVG animation.
5:30 PM
Photo Walk 📸
Don't want your conference to end yet? Join Magic Maggie after the conference, where she'll be showing you around the neighborhood while sharing her best photo secrets. We'll be meeting at the digital photo walk at the entrance at 5:30 PM. Register your free ticket so we know you're coming!
